Van de Ven Double Halts Everton's Run at Brand New Home Ground

Micky van de Ven scored twice as Spurs extended their unbeaten run in away games in the top division and delivered the Toffees their initial loss at their new home.

The Toffees were undefeated in their last five matches at their new ground at the dockside location, having departed Goodison Park behind after 133 years at the conclusion of the previous campaign.

But Tottenham's leader Van de Ven struck twice from corners in the first half to place their strong form at risk, and they were failed to turn it around before the midfielder - assisted by former Toffees attacker the Brazilian - headed home a final goal to seal the victory.

The Everton defender believed he had equalized the scores five minutes after the defender's first goal, directing a powerful header past Guglielmo Vicario from an set-piece.

Beto, in the meantime, failed to convert a number of opportunities, while Vicario made a succession of excellent stops to guarantee Tottenham went five away games unbeaten in the English top flight.

But the video assistant referee intervened, instructing the match official to check the score on the screen and the official ruled that the winger and the attacker were in offside positions and had impeded with the Spurs keeper.

The win elevates the manager's side into third place in the Premier League, five points off north London rivals and leaders Arsenal.

Everton stay 14th and are half a dozen points clear of the drop zone.

Following a drab weekday display in the Champions League against the French side, where they mustered a only attempts on target, Frank chose the French striker up front instead of former Toffees player Richarlison.

The new arrival was failed to make much of an impact before being replaced for the substitute after 60 minutes on the field, but it turns out he wasn't needed in the end.

Defender Van de Ven transformed into an attacking force to be reckoned with.

Everton's recent stadium had been a fortress, but it seems the freshness may have faded somewhat and supporters flocked to the gates after Sarr's third for Tottenham.

The break in Everton's unbeaten home run will not be a massive worry for David Moyes, but their striker situation will be.

Beto and Thierno Barry - the Everton's pair of recognised centre-forwards - had scored just a single goal combined before Sunday's outing.

And they were unable to contribute to that poor record on a wet and gloomy night on Merseyside.

The striker's performance was epitomized when he opted to overhead kick a clear chance from near the goal, even with having space and opportunity to readjust for a simpler attempt that would have challenged the keeper.

The substitute, too, failed to influence the game after coming on for Beto in the 65th minute.

It wasn't for a shortage of opportunity. The majority of Everton's offensive moves came through the winger and the forward, who tirelessly whipped threatening crosses into the Spurs penalty area.
